You guys know that Rhino USA is the global leader in tie down strap technology. But what's cool is they are now applying that same high quality of manufacturing to recovery equipment AND a complete line of tire care products including tire repair kits, deflator gauges and five different Inflator gauges ranging from 60 PSI – all the way up to 200 PSI.
We got our hands on their 100 and 200 PSI tire inflator gauges and we love them. But before we dive into WHY, let's do a quick recap on how to measure tire pressure. Tire pressure is measured in Pounds Per Square Inch or "PSI". What does that mean? Well that is just a standard used to measure how full of air a tire is. If a tire is too low or too high on air it can cause irregular wear and affect the handling of the vehicle. So the goal is to always hit the sweet spot and keep the right amount of rubber on the road. Remember too that air expands when it's heated. Most tire inflation recommendations are based on a cold tire – so be sure to keep that in mind.
Normal car tire pressure is usually between 32 to 40 PSI. The average ride-on lawn mower takes between 10 to 15 PSI. But bicycle tires can vary a LOT. For mountain bikes and most BMX style bikes you’re looking at 25 to 35 PSI. Some newer hybrid tires run as high as 70 PSI. And for road bike tires you’ll be up in the 80 to 130 PSI range so be sure to choose the right Rhino inflator for your situation.
Now, Rhino makes five different tire gauges – and the 100 PSI gauge is considered heavy duty and professional quality. It features 2" easy to read glow in the dark dials, a rugged cover for maximum grip and protection, interchangeable brass chucks, an air bleeder valve, a push to inflate thumb trigger, and come with a standard ¼" NPT quick connect male fitting. The kit even includes a small roll of thread seal tape to allow for permanent connections to air hoses.
The 100 PSI gauge is analog, and is ANSI accurate. It's made of solid brass and features a premium 360 swivel "no leak" braided hose for maximum life and durability. This is the same heavy duty construction and bullet proof design used at the tire shop, but now available for your garage or trunk.
Now on the 200 PSI side Rhino has upped the game even more. You have the same rugged cover, interchangeable brass chucks, air bleeder valve, push to inflate thumb trigger, and ¼" NPT quick connect male fitting…but this model includes a backlit LCD display with four different pressure ranges!
To use either the 100 or 200 PSI inflator gauges simply connect them to an air source and then to your tire. You should immediately see a pressure reading upon connection. Determine if your tire needs air and if so, simply press the thumb trigger – paying attention to the needle or readout as you go. Release the thumb trigger when you hit your target tire pressure. It's that simple. Remember properly inflated tires save fuel, last longer and increase handling & performance. So be sure to check your tire pressure at least once a month for your vehicles.
If we had one minor gripe with these gauges it might be that the 100 PSI analog gauge should feature a built in LED light. And we wish the digital 200 PSI gauge had a bit of a longer lead-in intake hose. But that's us just being super picky. The truth is these are some of the best gauges we’ve seen on the autoparts store.
