FORT MCKAY, Alberta — Fountain Tire has opened its first brick-and-mortar location dedicated to mine service.

Located in Fort McKay in the heart of Canada's oil sands, the location will offer tire sales, service and tire repair for a range of vehicles and equipment, from light trucks to graders, haul trucks, wheel loaders and other earthmoving vehicles.

The work will be performed at the job site, in maintenance yards or at the Fountain Tire facility, "ensuring the highest safety standards and maximum convenience," the company said.

"Our presence in Fort McKay is an investment in our local customers," Nelson Tonn, Fountain Tire's vice president sales and mine service, said. "A physical location allows Fountain Tire to enhance our service with specialized equipment for off-the-road tires and tire repair, tailored inventory and faster response times, all of which minimize downtime for our customers."

The new location, situated 36 miles north of Fort McMurray, follows after the late 2023 acquisition of Saskatoon Wholesale Tire Titan Mining Service Ltd. Daniel Newton, who had been managing the business, became Fountain Tire's operating manager and partner.

"Daniel brings incredible experience meeting the needs of oil sands operators," Tonn said.

The dealership has supplied off-the-road (OTR) tires since 2000, carrying brands such as Goodyear, BKT and TechKing. The company said its mine service team works closely with operators to identify the optimal tires for each piece of equipment based on the job site, weather conditions and operation of the machine.

A mine service team at the company's head office in Edmonton will support the operation, as well as a national network of 165 commercial stores and nine distribution centers.
