PGA Championship: Koepka wins, Scheffler earns top rank and Block parties

Jan 29, 2024

Rory McIlroy finished tied for seventh place and Jon Rahm was near the bottom

Brooks Koepka won the 2023 PGA Champioship on Sunday with an impressive total score of 9-under par on a difficult Oak Hill East Course that gave former world no. 1 Jon Rahm enough trouble to lash out at a cameraman. Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, did enough to tie for second place and snatch the sport's top ranking.

Koepka, 33, played poorly in the opening round on Thursday before pulling through the next day to make the cut. He went on to finish in first place on Saturday and stayed there the whole way through to clinch his fifth major championship.

Scheffler, 26, led the table through the first two rounds, but Saturday saw him drop to as low as fifth place. His 5-under par on Sunday was tied for the best score of the day, yet not enough to tie Koepka, who was two strokes ahead.

Rory McIlroy finished tied for seventh place and Rahm was near the bottom in the 50th position.

Despite most of the great golfers showing up to the tournament, the hottest story in the sport is Michael Block, a club pro who finished tied for 15th place.

Block, 46, received the low PGA Championship Club Professional Bowl award due to an impressive performance, which included a hole-in-one.

He managed to reach the top 10 on Saturday and fell to 15th the following round. Still, he made waves on social media due to being one of 20 club pros in attendance, but the only one to compete with the elite pros.

His 15th-place finish means he will get an invitation to next year's PGA Championship.

Block remained humble throughout the entire weekend and said that he is living a dream.
